Superfast West Yorkshire Phase One
Superfast West Yorkshire has now completed the first phase of its rollout to bring fibre broadband to 97 per cent of West Yorkshire.
The new technology is now available to more than 64,500 homes and businesses since the rollout began in January 2014 and has completed three months earlier than scheduled. The programme has also delivered fibre to more premises than originally planned.
The project has seen 430 new fibre enabled green cabinets installed throughout the intervention area, and 65 exchanges enabled with fibre. To check if your postcode has been enabled enter your postcode and telephone number in the 'fibre checker' on the right hand side of this page.
The multi-million pound Superfast West Yorkshire project was set-up to expand on BT’s commercial rollout of fibre broadband with the aim of providing high-speed, fibre broadband to 97 per cent of West Yorkshire by September 2015, which it has successfully done.
Funded by four local West Yorkshire authorities (Bradford, Leeds, Calderdale and Wakefield), BDUK and BT, the project has successfully laid 321km of cable and installed 393 new fibre street cabinets.
A second phase of the project has recently been agreed, which will enable a further 28,000 premises to access the new technology by the end of 2018. Further details about the programme will be announced on this website as soon as they are available.
