Digital skills top of the agenda in Leeds City Region for 2015

Digital skills top of the agenda in Leeds City Region for 2015

Superfast West Yorkshire is placing digital skills at the top of the agenda this year with six free master classes available as part of a new Digital Skills Programme.

The final event, The Big Social Media show, will be a full day event in partnership with Microsoft. The event will be held at Leeds Beckett University on 9 March 2015, with digital skills specialists and leading trainers in the field speaking and hosting breakout sessions.

The Digital Skills Programme is part of the national Digital Capabilities campaign (part of the Business is GREAT Britain campaign) which launched towards the end of 2014 and provided £2 million of funding to 22 Local Enterprise Partnerships across the UK to help small local businesses increase their digital presence.

With over 38million adults in the UK using the internet every day in 2014, small and medium size businesses need a presence in the digital world to enhance their brand and to reach a wider online audience.

Businesses across the Leeds City Region are being encouraged to sign up to these events to access free advice and support on getting their business online and making the most of the digital marketplace.

Ian Gray, chair of the Superfast West Yorkshire project board said:

“Helping small and medium size businesses in the region to unlock the potential of the digital world for their businesses is a real priority for 2015.

“As part of our project to provide infrastrure to over 80,000 homes and businesses across West Yorkshire we are also keen to provide businesses with the skills to make the most of faster internet.“

Roger Marsh, chair of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) said:

“Fast, reliable internet is vital to day to day business in the City Region and having the confidence and knowledge to exploit the benefits of the web is fast becoming the golden ticket to business success.

“By supporting more SMEs to get online and explore opportunities nationally and internationally, we attract other ambitious companies to do the same and further position the Leeds City Region as a great place to do business.“
