Public Consultation on Phase 2 of superfast broadband roll out
The West Yorkhshire Combined Authority is currently undertaking a consultation on a Phase 2 of the superfast broadband roll out affecting the West Yorkshire and York areas.
The West Yorkshire & York Phase 2 Broadband project aims to ensure everyone can benefit from better broadband and seeks to address under-served locations. The project aims to achieve enhanced broadband speeds so that 100% of premises in the area can access broadband at a minimum of 2 megabits per second (2Mbps), whilst 95% have next generation access (NGA), which the European Commission determines to be 'superfast' broadband' at speeds at or above 24 Mbps, by 2017.
The consultation is a legal requirement and an essential stage in gathering and the validation of information. Hence, it is intended to inform interested parties of the intention to progress an invitation to tender via the BDUK Framework to bid for the opportunity to fulfil a new contract to deliver the extended superfast broadband coverage.
